ROYAL HORSE makes balanced feeds, developed by veterinarians and equine nutritionists

How to provide for the nutritional needs of competition horses?

Competition horses make intense efforts, and their body is put to a severe test. It is therefore important to prepare them well but also to offer these horses a diet that will allow them to cover all their energy needs.

The aim is to guarantee top performance from horses, whether ridden for pleasure, sport, competition or racing, or used for breeding.

At the same time, you will contribute to their well-being. For this, Royal Horse has developed the H range to meet all the needs of these athletes.

Vary the energy sources according to the effort

The sport horses will need different types of energy according to the effort provided. For intense but short work (e.g., show jumping, trotting or gallop races), they will need a lot of energy in the short term. For this, cereals will quickly provide energy, thanks to the starch they contain. Starch, transformed into glucose by the horse’s digestive system, must not be in excess. It can cause ulcers, diarrhea or colic. H250, in the form of flakes, is ideal for short and intense efforts, such as show jumping competitions.

On the other hand, for a longer effort, such as endurance, fats will release a slower energy. It is therefore necessary to support the horse’s effort over the long term. Unlike starch, fat does not have a negative effect on the horse’s body. H350 is perfectly suited to endurance horses. It contains the energy necessary for the effort but also prebiotics. It also contains prebiotics, which promote digestive transit, Omega 3 and L-Carnitine.

The fibers are also a slow energy that can support the efforts of the horse. In addition to concentrated feed, horses that must make long and intense efforts will need a good quantity of forage, a source of fiber necessary for an herbivore. In the horse’s digestive system, the fermentation of the fibers results in volatile fatty acids that are absorbed and transformed into energy for the horse.

Promote muscular effort and recovery

Subjected to intense muscular efforts, the competition horse will need supplies of vitamins, minerals, trace elements and antioxidants to help its recovery.

Vitamins, especially vitamin E and selenium, are very important in the diet of a competition horse, as they help prevent muscle soreness. Antioxidants also play a very important role for the competition horse. They support the functioning of the muscles during exercise, allow the effort to be prolonged in optimal conditions and reduce the recovery time. On the other hand, the presence of L-Carnitine in these feeds helps convert fat into energy. All these nutrients are found in perfect balance in the entire Royal Horse H range.

To hydrate your horse after an intense effort, you can also use electrolytes. They allow a fast rehydration of the horse, which will have eliminated a lot of minerals with the sweating.
