Food supplements for sport horses
Sport horses may also need food supplements. In particular during competitions, where it is possible to administer food supplements to give a boost to the horse’s performance. Many fast-acting vitamin supplements are available on the market and will be relatively effective, especially if the horse is fed a diet that already contains vitamins and trace elements. These types of supplements are often given in case of specific problems and must be discussed with a veterinarian.
In the case of regular intense exercise, your horse’s body will need muscle support. Antioxidants (vitamin E or selenium) are especially important for the preservation of your horse’s muscles. After intense efforts, electrolytes can help recovery and rehydration. Moreover, the food supplements also help to support the joints of the sport horse, as for the old horses.
Royal Horse has specifically designed the ATHLETE EFFORT RECOVERY C-600 supplement to meet these needs. Enriched with a micro-alga concentrated in DHA and a fatty acid of the omega 3 family, these supplements are ideal to support the effort in optimal conditions (heart rate) of the performer horse and helps the recovery of horses subjected to intense efforts.
Food supplements to improve the horse’s hooves and coat
To improve the coat of your horse or the horn of the hooves, many food supplements are available on the market. Biotin cures are often recommended to avoid a dull coat or a horn of average quality. The action of Biotin on the regrowth of the horn is a long process because it depends on the presence or not of certain amino acids in their daily food.
Royal Horse has developed a food supplement based on biotin and ProKeratin® (source of specific amino acids that are part of the horn composition), the HOOF ACTIV REPAIR C-400 supplement. It will enable you to significantly increase the speed of horn regrowth (+30%) and improve the appearance of your horse’s hair.
Feed supplements for sick or convalescent horses
If your horse has been subject to an illness or a pathology, its organism may need to be supported for a return to normal. In this case, the addition of food supplements must be carefully considered (overall food intake, blood analysis, etc.) and it is essential to consult your veterinarian.
