Your
Horse Weight

Estimating the weight of your horse is very important. It allows you to determine the ration of pelleted or flaked feed that will best suit his nutritional needs. Horses often tend, depending on the season or health problems, to lose weight (or more rarely to gain weight). It is therefore important to monitor your horse’s weight to ensure that it remains healthy.

If you don’t have the equipment to weigh your horse, a feature is available on the Royal Horse app. After downloading it on Play Store or App Store, you will be able to enter the measurements of your horse (height of the withers and thoracic perimeter). The calculation of the weight of your horse will then be done automatically by the application. You will also be able to follow the evolution of his weight directly in the application. If you want to discover other features of the free Royal Horse application for your horse, see the following page: Royal Horse launches its mobile application for horse owners.

Detect weight loss in my horse

Horses can lose weight especially when winter arrives. Indeed, their body needs to warm up, which results in burning more calories. At the same time, the grass available for grazing is scarcer and of poorer quality. This can lead to significant weight loss.

In addition, a loss of appetite can also be related to illness. A horse with a fever or other pain may lose its appetite, resulting in weight loss. Intestinal worms or ulcers can also cause a horse to lose weight. Older horses will also tend to lose weight due to dental problems or difficulty moving to feed. Therefore, it is important to monitor your horse’s diet and weight at retirement to avoid excessive variations or health problems.
