The Groningen horse
This saddle horse originates from the Dutch province of Groningen. It is the result of crossing Oldenburgs and East Friesians with heavy Friesian mares. He has also been influenced by Suffolk Punchs and Norfolk Roadsters stallions. He was instrumental in the development of the Warm-blooded Dutchman. It is now gradually being replaced by the Gelderland.

Horizontal, powerful croup. Strong, clean limbs. Short cannons. Rather wide hooves. Tail high set. Coat: black, bay, burnt chestnut. Size: 1.55 to 1.63 m.
