The Oldenburg horse

Originating in East Friesland and the Duchy of Oldenburg, this half-blood, the heaviest and tallest of the German light horses, descended from Friesian mares, was improved by the addition of Spanish (Spanish Genet), Neapolitan, Barbe, Anglo-Arabian, English Thoroughbred, Hanoverian and Trakehner stallions, and in the late 19th century, by Bai de Cleveland and the Yorkshire Carrossier.

It takes its name from its principal founder, Count A.-G. von Oldenburg, who lived in the 16th century. Recent contributions from Thoroughbreds and French Saddle, notably Furioso II, have refined the breed into a sport horse.
