The Swedish Saddlebred
In the 17th century, Charles X of Sweden founded a Royal Stud in Flyinge to provide horses for his stables and army. Native Swedish mares were crossed with Holsteins, Hanoverians, Friesians, Frederiksborgs, Trakehners, Arabians, Thoroughbreds and Oldenburgs. The Trakehner and Hanoverian were particularly influential in the creation of the Swedish Warm-blood. The Stud Book was opened in 1874.
